Sitting on the fence… day 2 of 5.

I took this image in December – a cloudless day with golden grass (and very harsh light!).  I was struck by the simplicity of the scene, the curve of the background and just this tree..sitting on the fence 🙂

Robyn from Captivate Me included me in the B&W Challenge where you post 5 consecutive B&W images and nominate a person to take up the challenge with each post, so this is my Day 2 of 5.  In turn, today I am nominating Truel’s Blog.  I must stress, this is NOT a have to participate challenge but something that might be fun, but only if you have the time and/or inclination and feel comfortable with it 🙂

MMC41 – Broken….

This is my entry for the MMC week 41, hosted and curated by Leanne Cole and devised by Leanne and Laura Macky.  In my mind this image is called “Broken” – nothing was straight and there were thunderstorms on the horizon – a beautiful bleak landscape 🙂

A new view – near infrared…

At long last I took the plunge and had an old camera converted to near infrared 🙂  It is genre I have long admired and more recently the beautiful work of some fellow bloggers – Infrared Robert, Cybeleshine and Jan Flieger to name but a few.  I took my first images on Friday and in the last 36 hours I’ve had a lot of fun and an equal amount of disasters.  I thought I would share these two taken from outside our house this morning (not the most exciting scenery!) …I have SO much to learn 🙂 🙂

Impressions of the wind…

Something of a bit of an experiment today.   A couple of weeks ago we had a day where the wind was averaging 75 kph (47 mph) with frequent gusts well over 110 kph (68 mph). I watched the tops of these gum trees which have newer growth being bent sideways in very harsh sunlight and was fascinated by the almost painterly like strokes they created as they moved back and forth.

Weathered layers…

Yesterday I found this old tree trunk on its side, it has been there for years judging by how bleached and weathered it was.  I was fascinated by the effect of the weathering, creating waves of texture. Taken in, what seems at the moment, a rare window of sunshine!

Silhouettes in the fog…

This image sums up the last few weeks of weather for me – foggy, damp and cold.  I took this on my way home from work last week with only about an hour left of any daylight and the fog getting thicker by the minute, manually focused as the camera struggled.  There were trees that I had never noticed before, all in beautiful silhouette because of the fog 🙂

A forest in the sand…

When I first saw these seaweed impressions left in the sand they struck me as looking like bare trees in a forest, or an art nouveau frieze.  I decided to convert it to mono to bring out the contrast a little more, as even though the impressions were quite deep, the light was comparatively flat.

A post note!  My husband has looked at this and said he thought water had made the pattern as it drained back out to sea – so I may have assumed the wrong artist, not seaweed!!

Last image from my recent visit to Pyalong.  I’ve enjoyed this series of posts – they are surreal but then so is the landscape.  I’m aware they may be becoming a bit ‘samey’ so something different next time….anyhow, this scene struck me as it was so desolate, dead trees both standing and fallen in a tinder box landscape….

Wind swept…

In my experience the weather in this part of Australia (Victoria) can be sometimes incredible.  Often after a period of very hot days we get a ‘southerly change’.  This is in reality quite a shock – it can go from 40 C to 20 C (104 F to 68 F) in literally 30 minutes…the wind changes from a hot northerly to a cool southerly and the winds are often very strong.  This happened on Monday and flattened the long grass in this paddock.  The prevailing winds are north/south as you can see from the way this tree has grown, bent from south winds.
