Winter Jewels

Winter is certainly here and this week has been the coldest so far, yesterday morning we had temperatures down to -4C after what had been a run of very cold and wet days.  I found a lot of semi frozen spider webs a little after sunrise, this image being of one of them – the water droplets are still frozen towards the middle of the web 🙂

Catching the rays…

Hello everyone!  Even though we are nearly at spring here, today winter is having her last say, we didn’t get above 4C all day and at one point with wind chill it was -6.6C!  Since I last posted I have been back to the UK for a very long overdue visit to see my family which was really fantastic but not so much for photography as the weather, considering it was the northern hemisphere summer, was diabolical!!   However, there were some nice days and the image I am posting today is of a little spider in my mum’s garden.  It was not long after sunrise and I loved the way the light allowed a wonderful view of the spider sitting on her web – the delicate tension waiting for a meal to come along.  Enjoy 🙂

As always click in for a more detailed view.

Delicate Strength….

A very big hello to everyone!!!  It’s been a long time since I last posted, in fact, nearly 6 months!  I hope everyone is well 🙂  A lot has happened since I was last here, as it would be for everyone.  I look forward to catching up with all your posts 🙂  WordPress has had a lot of changes!!  This image was taken yesterday early morning, it’s hot here and the cool of the morning was welcome.  Glad to be back 🙂

Web and wires…

Last Tuesday was a glorious morning, the temperature about -4 C and a heavy frost.  It was slightly strange as it had warmed enough to start thawing and then as usual at first light, the temperature dropped, but this time dramatically and refroze everything.  This was taken just after sunrise with the first low rays of light.  I took a heap of images and have only just started sorting so there will be more to come 🙂

Web design!!

The day before yesterday saw a really heavy fog at sunrise (we didn’t actually see a sunrise!).  I knew that the spider webs would be beautiful and wasn’t disappointed, but from a photography point of view (excuse the pun), as the light slowly got better so the wind picked up.  This shot isn’t as sharp as I would like (also on an old DSLR)  but still an interesting web full of beads of moisture.  The reflections are dormant vines and the trellis system.

Diamonds are forever??

The heavy morning fogs in autumn add a magical beauty to nature.  The water droplets on these spider webs highlight the amazing intricacies and also the skills of their builders.
