One day last week after work I noticed that one of the horses, Adele, was backlit beautifully by the late afternoon winter sun. I was drawn by the light in her eyes and whiskers on her chin 🙂
Yesterday we went looking for a waterfall I’d read about at Sailors Falls near Daylesford. When we arrived there was no water, doh!! We decided to keep going and spotted this hill at Newlyn in the Shire of Hepburn. The landscape is reasonably flat with these occasional beautiful curves. Another day of dramatic clouds and contrasts with a few surprises including a very curious (and tall) Emu!

It’s been a week of freezing cold overnight temperatures and the most amazing sunrises. This sunrise was taken on Thursday with a 70-300 mm lens, I believe the temperature was about -4 C. The distant ridge is one I see almost everyday and am fascinated by its varying silhouettes in different lights – Thursday was perfect if not a little surreal! I went back today (you can view my other images on my recently created Facebook page – Lisa Kimmorley Photography) and found another individual waiting for the warmth of the sunrise!

Last weekend we went to Healesville Sanctuary which is part of Zoos Victoria. They are home to Australian natives and also care for more than 2000 sick, injured or orphaned natives every year through their Australian Wildlife Health Centre. The Dingo exhibit is my favourite and we had the chance to watch these two siblings at play.
We went to visit Raptor Domain which is on the South Coast of Kangaroo Island. They have a fantastic interactive show where audience members get to hold and pet some of the smaller birds.

I’ve often seen large flocks of Corella but nothing quite like this before! The photos were taken on the banks of the Loddon River at Newbridge, north central Victoria. It felt like there were hundreds of them, filling several very large trees and the noise was so loud! (Click to enlarge for the best view).

As a ‘friend’ of Melbourne Zoo I have the luxury of visiting as many times I want in a year. Yesterday I visited the big cats and primates.
