This is an image of the Avenue of Honour at Macedon. An important part of Australian culture, there are 547 known avenues in Australia. Each tree represents a person who saw or died in wartime service, generally in the First World War. The planting of this one was initially finished in August 1918 – you can read the local newspaper article here. Yesterday I visited a wonderful garden filled with many northern hemisphere specimens – I don’t know what this tree was but the trunk and bark where wonderful! A macro abstract of this ‘eye’ in the trunk which made me think of a Dragon’s eye… 🙂
Yet another week has rolled around and so tomorrow morning (AEST) sees week 34 of Monochrome Madness on Leanne Cole’s blog. I’ve been experimenting with very shallow depth of field using the 105 mm macro and am starting to get the type of images I want 🙂
Well, I did go back to Alowyn Gardens for the flowering of the 100 Metre long Wisteria Avenue. We were probably a week too early for the blooms to be at their best, but this was the only opportunity I had. The smell was so heady, a real delight – and then the sound of the bees was wonderful 🙂 This wasn’t an easy shot, a very popular and busy garden and conditions that made exposure difficult – I think it was worth it though 🙂
It is hard to believe that this is the 33rd week of Monochrome Madness, hosted and curated by the ever hard working Leanne Cole and initiated by Leanne and Laura Macky. It seems to grow every week with wonderful monochrome images from all around the globe. This is my submission for this week – a side view of part of the 100 metre long Wisteria Avenue at Alowyn Gardens.
Today we went back to Alowyn Gardens and they had swathes of poppies currently in bloom. My instinct was to get in the middle of them but it isn’t my garden so I stayed on the fringe and took images from the edge- still beautiful 🙂

Yes, at long last the weather has turned and today is the first day of daylight saving where the clocks have gone forward so it feels even more like we have turned that wintry corner. For me, work starts to get busy, as does the garden and it’s macro lens time! These two images were taken very early yesterday morning. Click in twice for more details 🙂
I took this image last Friday about 30 minutes after sunrise. The sky was amazing as there was a weather front coming through which produced these wonderful cloud formations 🙂
This image was taken at Alowyn Gardens and is a series of Wisteria tunnels or walkways. I shall go back (very soon) when the Wisteria blooms for a colour image…lining up the image was hard enough let alone planting and constructing it 🙂
