A New Day, A New Year.

Hello and a belated Happy New Year – the start of the new decade.  The image I am sharing  today is of a Cornflower in the garden at sunrise yesterday.  The flowers are very late in flowering due to my tardiness in sowing the seeds and the odd growing season that we have had starting with a cold spring and now the blistering heat.  Whilst both the heat and wind have been horrid here, my thoughts go to those far less fortunate in Australia at the start of this dreadful fire season and to the crews, volunteers and others who are working tirelessly in the communities.  Stay safe and well 🙂

A Primrose Promise….

As many of my posts show, I am particularly fond of dawn and early morning light, especially so in winter.  I love the softness and low angles of the sunlight, the cold crispness of air juxtaposed with a sense of warmth.  For me this image is the promise of a sunny winter day after a cold night…a Primrose in my garden yesterday morning 🙂

Catching the rays…

Hello everyone!  Even though we are nearly at spring here, today winter is having her last say, we didn’t get above 4C all day and at one point with wind chill it was -6.6C!  Since I last posted I have been back to the UK for a very long overdue visit to see my family which was really fantastic but not so much for photography as the weather, considering it was the northern hemisphere summer, was diabolical!!   However, there were some nice days and the image I am posting today is of a little spider in my mum’s garden.  It was not long after sunrise and I loved the way the light allowed a wonderful view of the spider sitting on her web – the delicate tension waiting for a meal to come along.  Enjoy 🙂

A moment of beauty…

Hello everyone.  It has been very cold here, winter has arrived.  The image I am sharing on another sad and unthinkable day for London and the UK,  is one I took a few weeks ago.  I saw this dragonfly at sunrise which was still in it’s cold slumber from the night before and was fascinated by the glass like beads of dew on the wings and the magnification in the drops on it’s eye.  Enjoy.

Autumn sunrise with sparkles.

I hope everyone is well.  We’re now into late autumn, the last of the deciduous trees are in their wonderful colours, days are getting much shorter and the misty mornings are plentiful.  One day last week we had very heavy fog and I spied these little grasses which had gone to seed sparkling in the rising sun.  Enjoy 🙂

Jewels at dawn.

It’s been a hot start to February here whilst some of you are freezing before the seasons start to turn!  One morning this week saw very heavy fog as the overnight temperature got really quite cool (6C) before another hot day.  At sunrise I was delighted to find many insects waiting for the warmth of the sun to get dry and moving – this tiny butterfly (wingspan of 2 cm) is called a common grass blue.  I hope you enjoy, click in for a larger image. 🙂

First light, first morning of winter….

Wednesday was the 1st of June and the first official day of winter here in Australia.  This last week has been cold – the day before saw dawn temperatures down to -4 C.  I took this image just before work at first light, a beautiful sky and the promise of a cold but good day 🙂

Delicate Strength….

A very big hello to everyone!!!  It’s been a long time since I last posted, in fact, nearly 6 months!  I hope everyone is well 🙂  A lot has happened since I was last here, as it would be for everyone.  I look forward to catching up with all your posts 🙂  WordPress has had a lot of changes!!  This image was taken yesterday early morning, it’s hot here and the cool of the morning was welcome.  Glad to be back 🙂

Cloudy water?!

Autumn has been a bit odd this year – normally there are beautiful sunny days but this year has seen a lot of grey days and it is very dry. This image was taken last week, there was a frost and it turned out to be a beautiful day 🙂  This is a creek that runs into the dam and was taken literally as the sun was about to come up over the horizon.
