Monochrome Madness – Week 34

Yet another week has rolled around and so tomorrow morning (AEST) sees week 34 of Monochrome Madness on Leanne Cole’s blog. ย If you are interested in monochrome images then do visit the post with global submissions from some very talented artists. This is my submission – ‘A Hint of an Orchid’. ย I’ve been experimenting with very shallow depth of field using the 105 mm macro and am starting to get the type of images I want ๐Ÿ™‚

Purple Haze….

Well, I did go back to Alowyn Gardens for the flowering of the 100 Metre long Wisteria Avenue. ย We were probably a week too early for the blooms to be at their best, but this was the only opportunity I had. ย The smell was so heady, a real delight – and then the sound of the bees was wonderful ๐Ÿ™‚ ย This wasn’t an easy shot, a very popular and busy garden and conditions that made exposure difficult – I think it was worth it though ๐Ÿ™‚

Tall poppies!

Today we went back to Alowyn Gardens and they had swathes of poppies currently in bloom. ย My instinct was to get in the middle of them but it isn’t my garden so I stayed on the fringe and took images from the edge- still beautiful ๐Ÿ™‚

Apologies as also I am behind in my reader – catch up day tomorrow ๐Ÿ™‚

The tunnel…

This image was taken at Alowyn Gardens and is a series of Wisteria tunnels or walkways. ย I shall go back (very soon) when the Wisteria blooms for a colour image…lining up the image was hard enough let alone planting and constructing it ๐Ÿ™‚

I missed the deadline for MMC 30 this week, but do check it out ๐Ÿ™‚

The long and short of it…

I’ve had the last week off work and the weather hasn’t been brilliant. On Tuesday, the weather was dark with heavy drizzle and I was inspired by a post on Leanne Cole’s ‘second’ blog to visit a local waterfall. ย This was taken at Trentham which is one of the highest single drop waterfalls in Victoria at 32 Metres (35ft), taken with both a long and short lens ๐Ÿ™‚

End of a row…

…and nearly the end of pruning! ย I apologise again for not having been on WordPress and liking or commenting on posts. ย This is a snapshot of my working day at the moment – we will finish the major pruning this Thursday ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ย Some interesting facts that went through my head the other day…approx 22,500 vines to prune but a double canopy so equivalent of 45,000 and each vine has four arms (cordons) held down by a total of 90,000 cable ties which takes around 3 months labour as all done by hand!!

Also my entry for MMC week 28 hosted and curated by Leanne Cole.

Golden Orb…

I am flat outย with work at the moment and so this is the first time I have properly logged into WordPress for what seems an age (well 5 days!!), and is likely to be this way for another week or so. ย In turn, I am snatching photo opportunities when I can. ย This image was taken last Thursday morning just after sunrise with the fog so thick you could look at the shape of the sun ๐Ÿ™‚

A new view – near infrared…

At long last I took the plunge and had an old camera converted to near infrared ๐Ÿ™‚ ย It is genre I have long admired and more recently the beautiful work of some fellow bloggers – Infrared Robert, Cybeleshine and Jan Flieger to name but a few. ย I took my first images on Friday and in the last 36 hours I’ve had a lot of fun and an equal amount of disasters. ย I thought I would share these two taken from outside our house this morning (not the most exciting scenery!) …I have SO much to learn ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

The Orchid’s Lure…

On Friday, another visit to my favourite florist (Flowers in a Vase) resulted in me coming home with this beautiful orchid bloom (amongst some other specimens!). I believe it is a genus of the Lady Slipper family ย (Paphiopedilum). ย I found it both beautiful and wondrous – the insect falls down into the ‘lip’ and it’s only means of escape is a single ‘ladder’ of hairs which leads directly to the flower’s reproductive parts – amazing! ย  I would love to see what this would look like in UV ๐Ÿ™‚
