Pink furls…

The gentle folds of this delicate rose took my eye as the backlighting caught the textures of the petals.

Bad hair day?

I’ve been watching these Highland Cattle for ages, they get moved from paddock to paddock and are always just out of range.  This was a snatched opportunity when they finally came near enough.  I love the texture of their fur and the huge horns.

Ice, ice baby…

We have a frost protection system at work which operates by means of overhead sprinklers.  The longer the temperature remains below freezing, the bigger and more dramatic the ice formations.  Last Thursday night the early end of winter had a sting in its tail….

When the wind blew (and then didn’t stop!)

A bit of an abstract post today, but I wanted to share the amazing clouds from Friday. The day started off very windy and then it steadily grew in strength.  By 4.30 pm when I took the image of the dam surface the wind was averaging 63 kph and gusting at over 90 kph – it got worse during the evening. Austr-alien flower!

Whilst the northern hemisphere is experiencing heatwaves, here down under, winter continues on for a little longer (which I confess I enjoy!).  I saw these flowers at the greengrocer on Saturday and was immediately drawn by the incredible red and what seems an almost alien form.  These are Banksia coccinea, and are native to the south coast of Western Australia.   The many forms of different Banksia amaze me with each flower head made up of many individual flowers.

From the horse’s mouth…

One day last week after work I noticed that one of the horses, Adele,  was backlit beautifully by the late afternoon winter sun.  I was drawn by the light in her eyes and whiskers on her chin 🙂

Frozen in time..(well at least for this morning!)

Today we had one of the first real big frosts of the year.  The crystals get better as winter goes on but this was a good start! Most of these were taken around dawn so low light levels.

Frost Feathers

Yesterday morning there was a hard frost – yes, winter is on the way!  These formations were on the windows and bonnet of some old cars. It was interesting watching the light – some images were taken just before sunrise and then completely changed as the sun came up illuminating different textures.

Seeing in monochrome

As always, not only was I was struck by the beautiful patterns that nature offers, but also by the beauty of monochrome colours.
