Hare’s looking at you…!

It hasn’t been a good few weeks for taking any new images (but I’m NOT going to go on about the weather 😯 ).  This is my image for this weeks Monochrome Madness Challenge which is curated by Leanne Cole.  I posted this image in colour last December, but always thought it might work in mono…so here is this beautiful hare – all eyes and ears but now in black and white 🙂

  1. I remember this guy from your color post – yes, it does work in B&W – I think in a large part because of the very narrow depth of focus. Any more detail in the surrounding and it would come off as too busy. Good submission for the MMC 🙂

      1. Thanks – it will bittersweet as we help Laura’s dad to empty out his house as he prepares to move out to Colorado – closing a chapter in her live – never to be quite the same since the loss of her mom in November.

    1. Hi Ben, thanks for dropping by and taking the time to comment. Possibly yes, but toned it to bring out the hare out from the grass – it was always primarily a colour image but an experiment with the mono. Always good to hear an opinion 🙂

  2. Wonderful picture, Lisa, really wonderful stuff! A great wildlife study of a creature that I find fascinating – and that I see out on the Levels from time to time. What sort of toning have you used? It works well. And I greatly envy you this shot, I would love to take such a portrait! Adrian

    1. I am glad you liked it 🙂 I have waited for a few years to capture a hare this close (and being still!!). It’s funny as I can clearly remember that I had been holding my breath the whole time taking the shots but hadn’t realised until it ran off! Cyanotype toning 🙂
