Heading towards late summer the Dahlias are starting to bloom. One of my favourites at this time of year, the sheer variety of their shapes and colours always amazes me.

I was going to write that the first (or is it last?) image was for me a standout, but then I wanted to say the first two, then three etc etc. In fact while they are all compelling, I guess I do really specifically love the horizontal view through the petals. The drama of the image creates a new landscape that would work well as a ballet or opera backdrop or even other world science fiction planetry image…imagine this blown up to a huge ‘state theatre’ scale.
